Outlook Download — New Outlook, Classic, Mac, Mobile & Free Web (2026)
There are two desktop Outlooks now — the free New Outlook (pre-installed on Windows 11) and classic Outlook (part of Microsoft 365). This page has every official download plus the honest answer on which one to use.

New Outlook vs Classic — which do you want?
- New Outlook (free): fast, modern, fine for personal accounts and light business use. But: no PST file support, no COM add-ins, limited offline mode, weaker rules.
- Classic Outlook (M365): the business workhorse — PST archives, shared mailboxes done properly, add-ins (CRM, Teams, Zoom), full offline cache. If email is your job, this is the one.
- Microsoft is slowly pushing everyone to New Outlook, but classic ships and works fully through at least 2029.
Common Outlook setup problems
- Outlook keeps asking for password — usually stale credentials or Autodiscover pointing at a dead server after a migration. Fixes in our migration issues guide.
- Old IMAP/webhost email into Outlook — works, but you lose server-side calendars/contacts. Better path: migrate the mailbox to Microsoft 365 and Outlook configures itself.

Is Outlook free to download?
Yes — New Outlook (Windows), Mac, and mobile apps are free, and outlook.com works in any browser. Classic desktop Outlook requires Microsoft 365.
How do I get classic Outlook back?
Toggle "New Outlook" off (top-right switch) if classic is installed, or install it via office.com → Install apps with a Microsoft 365 subscription.
Can I use Outlook with Gmail or my web-host email?
Yes — both Outlooks support IMAP/Gmail accounts. For business use on your own domain, an Exchange mailbox (Microsoft 365) unlocks the calendar/contact sync that IMAP can't do.
