Salesforce Layoffs 2026: Numbers, Timeline & What Is Known

This page in our tech layoffs tracker covers Salesforce: the 2026 rounds, the customer-support reductions tied to Agentforce, official statements, and prior years — with sources for every figure.

Summary as of August 2026
  • Salesforce has run at least three reduction rounds since September 2025: the ~4,000-role customer-support rebalance confirmed by Marc Benioff in September 2025, a sub-1,000 cut in February 2026, and a June 2026 round across Agentforce, MuleSoft, and Marketing Cloud teams.
  • The June 2026 round included a California WARN notice for 86 positions at the San Francisco Mission Street office, effective August 7, 2026, with additional cuts reported in Washington and internationally.
  • The stated driver is Agentforce, Salesforce's AI agent platform, which the company says now handles a large share of inbound support conversations.
  • The cuts run alongside growth: quarterly revenue of $11.13 billion (up 13% year over year) was reported roughly two weeks before the June round.

June 9-10, 2026Round affecting Agentforce, MuleSoft, and Marketing Cloud staff, reported by The Register; a California WARN notice listed 86 positions at the San Francisco Mission Street office across sales, general administration, and technology and product roles, effective August 7, 202686 in the WARN notice; total not disclosed

Salesforce has not published a company-wide total for 2026. Outside the WARN filing, the numbers above come from press reporting and employee posts rather than an official announcement, and the full scope of each round may be larger than the disclosed figures.

Roles affected: customer support first

The largest confirmed reduction sits in customer support. In September 2025, Marc Benioff said Salesforce had reduced its support organization from roughly 9,000 to about 5,000 people — around 4,000 roles — as Agentforce took over a growing share of support conversations. CNBC's report is here. The company described the change as a rebalance rather than a single layoff event, saying some of those employees were redeployed into sales and other functions.

The 2026 rounds reached beyond support: February hit marketing, product management, data analytics, Agentforce, and Heroku; June hit Agentforce, MuleSoft, and Marketing Cloud teams, plus sales and administrative roles listed in the WARN notice. Companies that lose in-house support capacity in cuts like these often move the function to an outsourced helpdesk rather than rebuilding the team.

What Benioff and Salesforce have said

Benioff has been unusually direct about the support reductions. On the 4,000 roles, he said "I need less heads" because AI agents handle a substantial share of customer conversations, as reported by NBC News. At the same time, he has pushed back on the idea that AI is eliminating entry-level work broadly: in 2026 he announced plans to hire 1,000 new graduates, months after the February cuts, per Yahoo Finance. Salesforce has also run a large hiring push for AI sales roles alongside the reductions, covered by TechRadar.

The Agentforce context

Agentforce is Salesforce's platform for autonomous AI agents that handle support tickets, lead follow-up, and other workflows previously staffed by people. Salesforce is both the vendor and its own reference customer: the support reduction from 9,000 to 5,000 is the company's proof point for the product. Reporting around the 2026 rounds put Agentforce at roughly $1.2 billion in annualized recurring revenue, up 205% year over year. The pattern — headcount down in support and adjacent functions while revenue grows — is the clearest large-scale case so far of AI agents directly replacing support roles at the company that sells the agents.

Prior years

The largest single reduction remains January 2023, when Salesforce announced it would cut about 10% of its workforce — roughly 8,000 roles — and reduce office space, citing over-hiring during the pandemic; CNBC's report is here. A further round of about 1,000 roles followed in February 2025, before the September 2025 support rebalance described above. FAQ

How many people has Salesforce laid off in 2026?

No official total exists. Reporting puts the February 2026 round at under 1,000 roles, and the June 2026 round included a California WARN notice for 86 positions plus undisclosed cuts elsewhere. These follow the ~4,000-role support reduction confirmed in September 2025.

Why is Salesforce laying people off?

The stated reason is AI-driven restructuring. Benioff has said Agentforce handles enough support conversations that the company needs fewer support staff, and the 2026 rounds concentrated in teams where Agentforce and internal AI tooling absorb work. The June round also coincided with acquisitions and a $50 billion share buyback authorization, per The Register.

Did Salesforce really cut 4,000 support jobs because of AI?

Benioff confirmed the number directly in September 2025: support headcount went from roughly 9,000 to about 5,000 as Agentforce was deployed internally. Salesforce says some affected employees were redeployed rather than dismissed, so the layoff count and the headcount reduction are not identical.

Is Salesforce losing money?

No. About two weeks before the June 2026 cuts, Salesforce reported quarterly revenue of $11.13 billion, up 13% year over year and ahead of Wall Street expectations. The reductions are restructuring decisions, not distress cuts.

Will there be more Salesforce layoffs?

Nothing further has been announced as of early August 2026. The June WARN notice takes effect August 7, 2026. Given three rounds inside twelve months and the company's public commitment to running on Agentforce internally, further targeted reductions would be consistent with the pattern, but that is inference, not an announcement.
