Outage survival guide

Confirm scope first

This page (public incidents) + Microsoft 365 admin center → Health → Service health (tenant incidents). Downdetector spikes confirm it's not just you.

Don't break things

Most incidents are Microsoft-side. Don't restart Exchange hybrid servers, rebuild Outlook profiles, or change DNS mid-outage — you'll create a second incident for tomorrow.

Keep business moving

Outbound mail queues and retries automatically. Move meetings to phone bridges. Document impact times for SLA credit claims — Microsoft pays credits on qualifying outages.

FAQ

Is Microsoft 365 down right now?

Check the live service grid above — it pulls Microsoft's official status feed every 5 minutes. If services show Operational but you're still having problems, the issue may be tenant-specific: check the Microsoft 365 admin center (Health → Service health) or ask your IT provider, since tenant-level incidents don't always appear on the public feed.

Outlook is down for me but the status page says operational — why?

Public status reflects broad outages. Tenant-specific or regional incidents appear only in your admin center's Service Health. Other common causes: expired password sessions, Conditional Access policy changes, local Outlook profile corruption, or DNS/network issues on your side.

How do I check Microsoft 365 status for my own tenant?

Microsoft 365 admin center → Health → Service health (admin sign-in required). That view shows incidents scoped to YOUR tenant that public pages never show. If you don't have admin access, ask your IT provider — or let us monitor it for you as part of managed Microsoft 365.

What should I do during a Microsoft 365 outage?

First confirm scope (this page + admin center). Don't restart servers or change DNS mid-outage — most incidents are Microsoft-side and resolve without action. Queue outbound email (it retries automatically), switch meetings to phone bridges, and document business impact for any SLA claims. If mail flow is business-critical, ask us about backup MX/continuity options.

How long do Microsoft 365 outages usually last?

Most incidents resolve within 1-4 hours. Major ones (authentication or Teams-wide) occasionally run longer. Microsoft posts updates roughly every 30-60 minutes during active incidents on this feed and @MSFT365Status on X.
